This image does not represent the final design, but indicates the design ethos, which will prioritise landscape, community and the environment, to produce a sustainable development that sits harmoniously within its surroundings.

Southside Data Centre

The Lammermuir Hills exemplify this opportunity. Wind farms in this area are among the most productive and consistent in the country, and the region is relatively close to Edinburgh while already benefiting from established fibre-optic routes. The inland location, at higher altitude provides a colder than average temperature. The area is ideally suited to support next-generation data-centre developments, bringing together a unique combination of resources.

  • Energy Supply – this site is located next to over 250MW of operational and consented wind generation that could be utilised locally rather than exported on the transmission system.

  • Energy Security – the site is located near the 400kV substation at Fallago Rig, which offers the highest tier of reliably connection to the transmission system. The site is also located near the gas transmission system, enabling backup generation to be supplied by gas rather than storing large volumes of fuel on site.

  • Data Connection – the site is located near two of the main data communication routes in Scotland.

  • Cooling – the site is located in location which is significantly cooler than other data centres in GB, significantly improving the cooling efficiency.

  • Visual Containment – the topography of the site enables screening of the data centre, minimising any visual impact.
